Biography[edit] Shmurda was born in Florida to a Jamaican father and Trinidadian mother.[2] He has an older brother.[3] After his father was incarcerated, Shmurda and his mother relocated to New York City. He lived in Flatbush, Brooklyn. He spent himself fifteen months in detention for violating a probation; he had first caught gun charge which was dropped.[2] Shurmda started rapping at age ten.[2] The first song he remixed was Crime Mob’s "Knuck If You Buck" in 2004.[3] In 2014, Shmurda broke through with the song "Hot Nigga", released in March of that year.[4] It features the beat from Lloyd Banks' unreleased song "Jackpot", Jahlil Beats.[5] The video which contains a choregraphy that was later named the "Shmoney dance", was made in the summer of 2013.[6] The song became popular among Vine users and soon lead to the "Shmoney dance" meme.[7] Beyoncé did the move at a venue of her On the Run Tour.[8] Drake used the song while hosting the 2014 ESPY Awards.[9][10] Freestyles by various rappers have since then been released among which Juicy J,[11] French Montana,[12] Lil Kim,[13] Gunplay,[14] and T.I..[15] The song charted at No. 21 on the Billboard Rap Digital chart.[16] In July 2014, Shmurda performed with Meek Mill[17] and later signed a recording deal with Epic Records.[18] A remix of "Hot Nigga" featuring Chris Brown, Jadakiss, and Busta Rhymes is in the works.[7] Shmurda is also working on his debut album with Jahlil Beats.[5] References[edit] Jump up ^ "Tomorrow's Hits: Bobby Shmurda, Priory & Anzel".
