Bluegrass is a tradition of American Country that is rooted in Old-Time and other Traditional Country. The style is typically performed on acoustic stringed instruments like the banjo, fiddle, Dobro resonator guitar, mandolin, and upright bass, paired with distinctive vocal harmonies and a high energy tempo that emphasizes the off-beat. Bluegrass also often incorporates elements of Blues and Gospel (especially in Bluegrass Gospel), and can feature Jazz-like breakdowns where individual instruments can improvise solos.
