Post-Punk

With its roots in the mid to late 1970s, post-punk emerged alongside the initial Punk Rock explosion. While retaining punk rock's focus on trimming away excess, post-punk tends to place more importance on creating atmosphere and usually has more complex songwriting. Musically, post-punk commonly consists of a prominent, pulsating rhythm section, along with angular, interlocking guitar lines and occasionally featuring synthesizers. Artists tend to draw from a bevy of influences, often taking cues from genres like Dub, Funk, Krautrock, Jazz, Electronic, and Experimental music. However, post-punk can also be more conventionally Pop-oriented, similar to its close cousin in New Wave. Lyrically, subject matter is also diverse, ranging from morose melancholy to pointed political satire. AKA: New Musick
