Hip house is a form of House music that emerged in the mid-to-late 1980s. Early artists of the genre like The Beatmasters, Tyree, Fast Eddie, Doug Lazy, Tony Scott, and Mr. Lee would merge the early house sound of their time (including late-1980s Chicago House and the beginning styles of what would become Acid House) with production elements borrowed from Hip Hop and with joyous, triumphant rapping. Hip house thus developed as an approximate fusion of both house and hip hop that combined the breakbeats, drum loops, and turntables of early hip hop production with the four-on-the-floor rhythms and soulful elements of late 1980s house. Though rapping consistently remained an important component of the genre, it was never a necessary feature, and many tracks would instead feature vocal samples or not feature any vocals at all, instead relying on janky, syncopated, Electro-inspired and funky drumbeats. Hip house's peak popularity faded by the mid-1990s, though it continued to influence later artists, and its accessible sound helped to shape the sound of other genres of the time. These include Eurodance, which was influenced by hip house's dance-ready sound in general; early Breakbeat Hardcore, which partially built on hip house's breakbeat-rich, more rhythmically loose style compared to other house genres; and early Techno, Dance-Pop, and even New Jack Swing. A more prominent influence is with Pop Rap which became more popular through the 1990s.
