Madchester was a cultural and musical phenomenon that emerged from Manchester during the late 1980s and early 1990s. This scene featured a diverse range of styles performed, including Baggy, Neo-Psychedelia, Indie Pop, Alternative Dance, Acid House, and Jangle Pop. As a result, Madchester's blend of styles gave rise to the baggy genre. Madchester's roots can be traced back to New Order, highlighting Martin Hannett's production, The Smiths, particularly with their rhythmic, guitar-laden single "How Soon Is Now?" and A Certain Ratio, with their Dance-Punk ethos. The term Madchester was coined by the Bailey Brothers during a meeting and later popularised by Tony Wilson, all of whom inspired the EP title Madchester Rave On.
