Melbourne bounce is a House subgenre that emerged in the early 2010s in Melbourne. Despite now largely being considered a subgenre of Electro House, it didn't evolve from it. The genre's roots can be traced to Minimal Techno and Tech House combination, which rose to prominence in the second half of the 2000s and first developed the signature minimalistic melodies and monotone, offbeat groove. Melbourne spawned a highly vibrant, underground minimal club scene, that would later give birth to Melbourne bounce, with the sound adapting prominent electro house and especially Dutch House influences. The genre, therefore, commonly incorporates its signature, hi-pitched synths and features a more fun, energetic, party-oriented atmosphere compared to its predecessor. Melbourne bounce's prominent, offbeat basslines and heavy side-chaining give it a bouncy groove, somewhat resembling playful styles like Bubblegum Dance or certain Hard Dance genres such as Scouse House. The genre also commonly features vocal chops, trumpets and other horns. All of that is implemented into tempo around 130 BPM and drop-oriented structures akin to other 2010s-arising EDM.
