Romanian popcorn has been largely pioneered by Play & Win, who produced several influential songs of Romanian Pop artists, such Akcent's "Kylie". They would later work with INNA, who became the genre's most recognizable figure. David Deejay and Tom Boxer were other important DJs/producers making the sound, while Alexandra Stan, Antonia, and Andreea Bănică become other successful singers. Romanian popcorn managed to achieve worldwide popularity, with songs like "Stereo Love" and "Mr. Saxobeat" becoming major, global hits. Its name originates from David Deejay's album Popcorn. The genre has largely faded after the early 2010s, with the artists following (and influencing) other European pop/house trends like Tropical House and Slap House.
