Jersey club rap is a form of Hip Hop that emerged in the late 2010s. It is characterized by the incorporation of Jersey Club's distinct kick-heavy rhythms, which are modified to better suit rapping, featuring less sampling and more atmospheric production than earlier Jersey club. With its roots going back to sporadic examples of rappers using Jersey club production, such as "Takin' It No More", the genre would properly emerge with the works of Killa Kherk Cobain and Uniiqu3, and who began to popularize rapping on the off-kilter, bouncy rhythms of Jersey club. The production style took a gradual shift, shifting from a sample-heavy and banging sound to a cleaner, milder sound that better suited rapping and lyrics. That being said, the repetitive and simple, crude sound of Jersey Club is highly influential on Jersey Club rap lyrics, which are often sexual, and sometimes repeated, resembling the chopping of Jersey Club samples. Beginning in the early 2020s, and as the sound was attracting novel producers like AceMula, Jersey Club rap would cross paths with the growing Brooklyn Drill scene, which in turn took major elements from Jersey Club. The resulting mix, appropriately called Jersey Drill, would feature additional drill elements, and heavier drill-inspired rapping than its predecessor, and many Jersey club rap artists would also create some examples of the newer sound. Regardless, the sound continued to grow and receive traction, culminating in hits by major artists, like Drake's "Sticky", Bad Bunny's "Where She Goes", and Doechii's "Booty Drop". Elements from other popular sounds, such as Trap styles, Contemporary R&B, became more common as well. A parallel yet distinct sound emerged in Philadelphia in the 2020s, appropriately known as Philly Club Rap, based on Philly Club.
