Acid jazz is a genre that fuses elements of Jazz, Funk, Hip Hop, Soul, and various styles of Dance. Earning its namesake from the label Acid Jazz, the genre began in the UK in the mid-1980s, where DJs played records that fused these genres, and it eventually spread to other parts of the world. It had a slight boom in popularity with hit singles such as The Brand New Heavies' "Never Stop", the original version of Nightcrawlers' "Push the Feeling On" and the crossover success of Jamiroquai's "Virtual Insanity". Ripples of acid jazz have influenced many modern forms of Neo-Soul, as well as contemporary Jazz-Funk artists such as The Internet and Thundercat.
