AKA: Swing Blues Jump blues is a style of Blues that emerged in the late 1930s from the cross-pollination of blues (particularly Boogie Woogie) and Jazz styles popular at the time, primarily Swing and Big Band. Jump blues was popular through the 1940s and 1950s, with artists such as Louis Jordan, Wynonie Harris, T-Bone Walker, Big Joe Turner, and Roy Brown achieving commercial success. Characteristics of jump blues are a fast tempo, a medium-sized ensemble, and an emphasis on saxophones and brass instruments. Jump blues is also often known today as a precursor to Rhythm & Blues and Rock & Roll.
