This was Maxine Nightingale's breakout song and it hit in a huge way. It's about a woman in a relationship that's begun to fail and she wants them to bring back what brought them together in the first place. Though the song was a huge hit, Nightingale was never able to repeat its success, though "Lead Me On" did very well a few years later. After 1980, she shifted her career and now mostly sings jazz, though she occasionally performs her old hits to her fans. >> Maxine Nightingale is a UK singer who appeared in various stage musicals such as Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar and Godspell before going solo. This was written by the British songwriters Pierre Tubbs and J. Vincent Edwards. In 1988, the singer Sinitta released a version on her 1988 album Wicked which went to #4 in the UK. Nightingale did not want to record this in a "crush" rhythm (where bass, percussion and most accompaniment are all on the downbeat). In fact, she nearly refused to record the song but songwriter/producer J. Vincent Edward convinced her to record it as suggested. >>
