"You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine" was written by the legendary songwriting team of Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. They were the powerhouse producers behind most of what we today call the Philadelphia Sound, and they wrote this song specifically for Rawls. The track helped lure Rawls to Gamble & Huff's Philadelphia International label, as he was impressed that they took the time to understand his voice and write something to suit it. Rawls had bad experiences at his previous labels, Capitol and MGM, and was happy to find a good fit in Philadelphia International. This is not so much a love song as a warning to the girl that if she lets this guy go, she'll end up spending the rest of her life looking for someone just like him. The relationship is at a turning point, and the man won't beg her to stay, but makes it very clear what will happen if she doesn't: "You're gonna miss my lovin'." At the time, Kenny Gamble was going through a divorce from the singer Dee Dee Sharp. This roller skating rink favorite was also a breakout hit for Lou Rawls; though he'd been releasing singles and charting in the top-40 for a full decade, this was his first visit to the top-10 and his first multi-chart #1. The album All Things in Time was produced at Sigma Sound Studios for the Philadelphia International Records label - and they went all out on the production, bringing in Bunny Sigler and Dexter Wansel as well as the aforementioned Gamble & Huff. Critics remarked on how well-managed the whole effort was, probably the most shining moment for all the talent at once. "You'll Never Find Another Love Like Mine" appears as part of the soundtrack to various films and TV episodes, including The Hot Chick, Guess Who, and Disturbia. And perhaps most fittingly, in the TV animated series South Park episode "Wing" (season 9, episode 3). This hit came late in Rawls' music career, but he was a blinding flash of action nonetheless. He had a substantial acting career, playing bit parts on various TV series throughout the '70s, '80s, and '90s. This included Sesame Street, The Big Valley, Baywatch, The Muppet Show, and Martin, as well as voice acting in cartoons including Hey Arnold! and Garfield. Oh, wait, don't forget the commercial spokesman work for Colonial Penn Life Insurance and Anheuser-Busch. Oh, also don't forget the charity work with the "Lou Rawls Parade of Stars Telethon" to benefit the United Negro College Fund. Now on top of this, he had a music career in which he released 55 albums between 1962 and 2003. Did the man ever sleep? This was the first big hit featuring the reformulated Philadelphia International Records house band MFSB, after many of the original members left for better opportunities. It was recorded live with the singer and the band with no piecemeal overdubbing as Rawls preferred to record live.
