This was originally a Country song written in 1966 for Eddy Arnold by Nashville veteran Bob Montgomery, who was Buddy Holly's high school singing partner. The song reached a bigger audience after it was covered by Ella Fitzgerald the following year. Joe Simon recorded the original R&B version in 1972. Dorothy Moore was originally a member of the female vocal group The Poppies, who had a #56 pop hit in 1966 in the US with the song "Lullaby of Love." Moore went solo in the mid-'70s and her version of this song became her biggest hit. On backing vocals was her former Poppies bandmate Fern Kinney, who later in 1980 enjoyed a #1 hit in the UK with "Together We Are Beautiful." This song has been covered by numerous other artists including Monica, whose version is featured on her 1998 album The Boy Is Mine. Moore's version is featured in the 1996 film Phenomenon. The 2007 X Factor winner Leon Jackson also recorded this on his debut album Right Now. >>
Oh, it's been such a long, long time Look like I'd get you off of my mind But I can't Just the thought of you (just the thought of you) Turns my whole world misty blue (misty blue) Oh honey, just the mention of your name (just your name) Turns the flicker to a flame Listen to me good, baby I think of the things we used to do And my whole world turns (misty blue) misty blue Oh baby, I should forget you Heaven knows I tried (you know I tried) Baby, when I say that I'm glad we're through Deep in my heart I know I've lied I've lied, I've lied (just the thought of you, misty blue) Oh honey, it's been such a long, long time Looks like I'd get you off of my mind But I can't Just the thought of you (just the thought of you), my love My whole world turns misty blue (misty blue) Oh, oh, I can't, oh, I can't Oh, I can't forget you My whole world turns misty blue Oh, oh, my love My whole world turns misty blue (misty blue) Baby, baby, baby, baby Baby, I can't forget you My whole world turns misty blue
