This song finds Simon Le Bon singing about a girl that is driving him crazy as he feels there is something wrong with their relationship. He tells her she's as easy as a "Nuclear War." This song was recorded in 1982. It was the only new song on the 1983 United States reissue of the band's self-titled debut album, and it turned to be the most successful from it as well. >> Phil Thornalley, who had just come off of producing The Cure's moody Pornography album and its ensuing tour, was brought in to engineer the track. He recalled in a Songfacts interview: "I used to work closely with a producer called Alex Sadkin (Bob Marley, Thompson Twins) when the offer came to remix that record. Duran Duran were super-hot then, they were the biggest band in the world, and I think they'd tried everyone to mix it. It was just another job that came through, and I just happened to be on fire that day and did a really good job. That worked out well so Alex then produced the album that followed, which was called Seven and the Ragged Tiger." Russell Mulcahy, who directed the Duran Duran videos for "Rio," "Wild Boys" and several others, also did this one. It followed his tried-and-true method for success with the group: lots of footage of the boys (especially Simon), combined with random exotic images (an archeologist, a transfixed toddler) put together with switcher wipes and other effects that were, at the time, special. As expected, MTV put it in hot rotation.
Please, please tell me now Please, please tell me now Please, please tell me now Please, please tell me now I made a run, I run out yesterday Tried to find my mountain hideaway Maybe next year, maybe no go I know you're watching me every minute of the day, yeah I've seen the signs and the looks and pictures That give your game away, yeah There's a dream that strings the road With broken glass for us to hold And I cut so far before I had to say Please, please tell me now Is there something I should know? Is there something I should say? That would make you come my way Do you feel the same 'cause you don't let it show (ooh) People stare and cross the road from me And jungle drums they all clear the way for me Can you read my mind, can you see in the snow And fiery demons all dance when you walk through that door Don't say you're easy on me, you're about as easy as a nuclear war There's a dream that strings the road With broken glass for us to hold And I cut so far before I had to say Please, please tell me now Is there something I should know? Is there something I should say? That would make you come my way Do you feel the same 'cause you don't let it show Please, please tell me now Is there something I should know? (please, please tell me now) Is there something I should say? (please, please tell me now) That would make you come my way (please, please tell me now) Please, please tell me now Can you see what makes me blow? (please, please tell me now) Can you see how much I die? (please, please tell me now) Every time it passes by (please, please tell me now) Please, please tell me now What it takes to make you show (please, please tell me now) Is there something I should know? (please, please tell me now) Is there something I should say? (please, please tell me now)
