"Everywhere" is far from the biggest hit for Fleetwood Mac, but it's one of their most enduring songs because it's so darn singable. It was written and sung by Christine McVie, who had an extraordinary pop sensibility. Her bandmate Stevie Nicks would write mysterious, mystical songs like "Rhiannon" and "Gold Dust Woman," but McVie kept it down to earth with straightforward love songs like "Everywhere" and "You Make Loving Fun." Their distinct styles gave the band a unique musical texture. In this song, Christine McVie describes the feeling of falling in giddy love, that kind that makes your friends wonder why you've been acting peculiarly. This feeling doesn't need many words to convey; the chorus gets the point across with just these lines: Oh I... I want to be with you everywhere McVie was likely in love when she wrote it - she married Eddy Quintela (like her, a keyboard player) while they were working on the album (they split in 2003). The glistening backing track on "Everywhere" is largely the work of Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, who co-produced the Tango In The Night album with Richard Dashut. Buckingham could coax lots of unusual sounds out of his guitar, and by this time, he also had Fairlight synthesizer he could use for sampling. According to Jon Pareles, who covered the album for Rolling Stone, Buckingham incorporated toy pianos and zithers into the mix. Fleetwood Mac started recording Tango In The Night in late 1985 after Christine McVie pulled in Buckingham, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie to play on her cover of "Can't Help Falling In Love" that was used in the 1986 movie A Fine Mess. Stevie Nicks joined the sessions later. The band hadn't worked together since 1982, when they wrapped up the tour for their Mirage album. "Everywhere," released in November 1987, was the fourth single from the album, following "Big Love," "Seven Wonders," and another Christine McVie composition, "Little Lies." The music video, directed by Alex Proyas, is based on the poem The Highwayman and follows the story of a traveler in love with the landlord's daughter. It got a lot of spins on VH1, which went on the air in 1985. >> The song re-entered the Top 20 of the UK Singles Chart in March 2013 after it soundtracked an advert for the UK cell phone provider 3. The commercial features some Shetland Ponies performing a variety of dance moves to the song. Niall Horan and Anne-Marie recorded a cover as the official UK 2021 Children In Need charity single. An all-star backing band joins them. Members include: Yungblud: bass guitar Ed Sheeran: acoustic guitar Griff: keyboards Lewis Capaldi: tambourine Niall Horan and Anne-Marie previously paired to record "Our Song" for Anne-Marie's Therapy album. Their version peaked at #23 on the UK singles chart. Chevrolet used this song in a 2022 commercial for its electric vehicles. In the spot, happy people sing along to it as they go "everywhere" in their EVs. One of the guys singing along is the actor/presenter Terrence J, longtime host of the BET show 106 & Park.
