Three music videos for the single were produced. The first video is a direct tie-in to Buddy's Song. A girl (played by Saffron) and her friend (played by Lucy Alexander) go to a cinema to watch the film, where Buddy Clark (Hawkes) jumps out of the screen and beckons the girl to follow him. They go into a storage room, but Buddy is then pulled back into the screen; he escapes again, only to have his father Terry (Roger Daltrey) come out of the screen and chase after them. Finally, at the end of the video, Buddy reaches out of the screen to the girl, who takes his hands and goes into the screen with him. They kiss whilst being watched by the girl's shocked friend. The second video is a live concert performance of the song intercut with black-and-white footage of Hawkes' interaction with his fans. This version was released in international markets where Buddy's Song was not released. The third video is an alternate edit of the second version featuring scenes from Doc Hollywood. All three videos are included in the DVD of the 2022 box set The Complete Picture: The Albums 1991–2012
This song was featured on the movie Buddy's Song starring Chesney Hawkes and Roger Daltrey about a boy called Buddy (Hawkes) who is determined to go further than his father's (Daltrey) teddy rocker days. >> When Hawkes reached the top of the UK singles charts with this song, it marked the first time both father and son had got to #1. Chesney's father is Chip Hawkes of The Tremeloes, who in 1967 topped the charts with "Silence Is Golden."Chip Hawkes' last hit single with the Tremeloes was "Hey Buddy." This was written by Nick Kershaw, who had previously experienced success as a solo artist in the UK including a #2 single "I Won't Let The Sun Go Down On Me." This was the first UK #1 he was part of. Nik Kershaw said in 1000 UK #1 Hits by Jon Kutner and Spencer Leigh, "I wasn't particularly precious about The One And Only. I've just got this affliction to write those kind of songs. I just have to write them and stick them on a shelf and get them out of the way. I really don't know why people like them." This song was also used in the Michael J. Fox movie Doc Hollywood. As a result of the film boost it reached #11 in the US and also got into the Top 10 in Japan. Hawkes follow up to this was "I'm A Man Not A Boy," which was also used in Buddy's Song. It only reached #27 in the UK and flopped in the US. Since then he has failed to record any significant chart entries as a performer but as a songwriter he has had some success with various artists as Caprice, who charted in March 2001 with "Once Around The Sun. He also collaborated with Tricky on his Mission Accomplished EP. >> The song features as a ringtone on the movie Source Code and was an alarm clock tone in Moon. David Bowie's son Duncan Jones directed both films.
I am the one and only, oh yeah Call me, call me by my name or call me by number You put me through it I'll still be doing it the way I do it And yet, you try to make me forget Who I really am, don't tell me I know best I'm not the same as all the rest I am the one and only Nobody I'd rather be I am the one and only You can't take that away from me I've been a player in the crowd scene A flicker on the big screen My soul embraces one more in a million faces High hopes and aspirations, and years above my station Maybe but all this time I've tried to walk with dignity and pride I am the one and only Nobody I'd rather be I am the one and only You can't take that away from me I can't wear this uniform without some compromises Because you'll find out that we come In different shapes and sizes No one can be myself like I can For this job I'm the best man And while this may be true You are the one and only you I am the one and only Nobody I'd rather be I am the one and only You can't take that away from me I am the one and only Nobody I'd rather be I am the one and only You can't take that away from me
