Daniel Bedingfield revealed to VH1: "I did 'If You're Not The One' because its so different to 'Gotta Get Through This.' I hope people can take the journey that I took on the album around these different styles. I'm not a dance artist, I'm not a ballad artist, I'm all of that, and I really want people to get that." Daniel refuses to reveal who the inspiration was for this song, only admitting that she was an ex-girlfriend. In Australia radio DJs preferred to play a dance mix of this track, which reached #14. In the chorus, which Daniel sings in falsetto, he hits the note Eb5. This appeared on the soundtrack to Maid In Manhattan starring Jennifer Lopez.
