In the music video, Posner starts out at a concert singing some of his songs before an enthusiastic audience. After the show he goes driving with his friends, who then drop him off at the Roosevelt Hotel on Los Angeles' Hollywood Blvd.[6] After a short ride in an elevator, Posner enters a hotel suite, where he finds a party in freeze frame. As soon as Posner dons a pair of sunglasses, the party comes to life. Throughout the course of the video, Posner tries on different styles of sunglasses including Oakley Razorblades, Holbrooks, Jupiters, Frogskins, and 3D glasses. While he is trying each pair on, it evokes a different perception of the party currently going on in the hotel room. In the end, he is seen leaving the hotel that morning with his old sunglasses back on. The video, directed by Jason Beattie, features cameos by Louie Vito, Christopher Pfaff, and others.[7] The music video premiered in early April 2010 and uploaded on May 26, 2010, on Vevo online. It premiered on television in the UK on September 28, 2010.
Mike Posner is an American singer, songwriter, and producer. This single is taken from his second mixtape One Foot Out the Door, which he recorded whilst still a student at Duke University in North Carolina. The original version featured Hip-Hop artist Big Sean, but he was later removed on the single mix. The song was written by Posner in his Duke University dorm room and was inspired by the types of women he has encountered on the campus there. He recalled on The Ralphie Radio Show: "I can't tell you like after the song came out like how many girls from my past came out of the woodwork and were like 'I know this song is about me. It's like, 'Ugh, you're so vain. It's not about you. But, now that you're saying that, it kinda is.'" Here's some "cool" chart trivia: This was the fifth song with the word "cool" in its title to reach the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. The other four singles to do so were: 1966 "Cool Jerk," The Capitols #7 1972 "Long Cool Woman (In a Black Dress)", The Hollies, #2 1980 "Cool Change," Little River Band, #10 1985 "Cool It Now," New Edition, #4 An honorary mentions goes to Paul Davis' 1981 hit "Cool Night,"which peaked at #11. Squeeze's "Cool For Cats," which reached #2 on the UK singles chart in 1979 is the most successful "cool" song on that side of the Atlantic. Posner graduated from Duke University in May 2010 with a BA in Sociology and Business. The song is also included on Posner's debut album, 31 Minutes to Takeoff. Said Posner regarding the album title, "Something happens 31 minutes into the record. You're going to have to listen to find out what it is. All I can say is that both the listener and I will be in a higher place when it's over." This song had a symmetrical chart position run on the Hot 100 spanning 11 weeks: 8-7-6-7-6-7-6-7-6-7-8. This featured in the Sims 3: Ambitions video game. It was converted to Simlish, the language of the Sims, under the title of Cooler Than Me (Gooba Da Mwee)."
If I could write you a song to make you fall in love I would already have you up under my arm I used up all my tricks, I hope that you like this But, you probably won't, you think you're cooler than me You got designer shades just to hide your face And you wear 'em around like you're cooler than me And you never say hey, or remember my name And it's probably 'cause you think you're cooler than me You got your high brow, shoes on your feet And you wear 'em around like it ain't shit But you don't know the way that you look When your steps make that much noise Shh, I got you all figured out You need everyone's eyes just to feel seen Behind your make up nobody knows who you even are Who do you think that you are If I could write you a song to make you fall in love I would already have you up under my arm I used up all-of my tricks, I hope that you like this But, you probably won't, you think you're cooler than me You got designer shades just to hide your face And you wear 'em around like you're cooler than me And you never say hey, or remember my name And it's probably 'cause you think you're cooler than me You got your high brow, switchin' your walk And you don't even look when you pass by But you don't know the way that you look When your steps make that much noise Shh, I got you all figured out You need everyone's eyes just to feel seen Behind your make up nobody knows who you even are Who do you think that you are 'Cause it's your scene (it's your scene) You got no doubt But-we all see You got your head in the clouds If I could write you a song to make you fall in love I would already have you up under my arm I used up all-of my tricks, I hope that you like this But, you probably won't, you think you're cooler than me You got designer shades just to hide your face And you wear 'em around like you're cooler than me And you never say hey, or remember my name And it's probably 'cause you think you're cooler than me
