Tamar Braxton is an American R&B singer-songwriter and reality television personality. She started her musical career as a teenager in the 1990s as the youngest member of the R&B family group, The Braxtons. Their only single as a fivesome, "Good Life," peaked at #79 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart. The following year Toni Braxton left the group to become the first female solo artist of Antonio "L.A." Reid and Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds' new label LaFace Records. When Reid moved on to work for Atlantic Records, he signed The Braxtons to the label and the sisters released with them their one and only album, So Many Ways. In 1999, the youngest Braxton charted for the first time when, billed as just Tamar, she sent "Get None," featuring Jermaine Dupri and Jay-X protégé Amil, onto R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, where it peaked at #59. During the 2000s Tamar worked alongside her sister Toni Braxton performing background vocals on several of her albums. Tamar signed with Interscope Records in September 2012 and later that month, her television show Tamar & Vince premiered on WEtv. The show featured multiple scenes of the singer recording her Love and War album along her husband and manager Vince Herbert. The LP's title track was released on iTunes December 6th, 2012 and reached #1 in 24 hours. Braxton performed the song on an episode of Tamar & Vince, however interest was also generated by some tweets of support from Lady GaGa. "K I NEVER PROMOTE ARTISTS but if u want your mind blown check @tamarbraxtonher "Love & War" She's Toni Braxton sister + her voice is BEYOND," GaGa tweeted. "MYSELF AND @tamarbraxtonher have been the best of friends since her husband Vincent discovered + signed me when I was 20. SHE IS INCREDIBLE." Braxton told The Boombox that the Love and War album title is not based on this song, but on on-and-off relationships. She explained: "Sometimes you are in relationships you are all in love and then at one point you are fighting with each other and figuring things out, and to me that is what life is all about." The no-holds-barred song explores the push and pull of a relationship as well as how real love can weather any storm. "I'd experienced love, but I never experienced passion until I met my husband," revealed Braxton. "This song is the soundtrack to our relationship. We fight hard, but we love even harder. We get through everything, and we keep going strong." The song was a big hit, spending ten weeks at #1 on Billboard's Urban AC chart and peaking at #13 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
Somebody said every day, was gon' be sunny skies, Only Marvin Gaye and lingerie, I guess somebody lied We started discussin' it to fightin' then "Don't touch me, please." Then it's "Let's stop the madness, just come lay with me." And truth be told I'm wavin' my flag before it goes bad yeah yeah 'Cause we made it this far on for better or worse I wanna feel it even if it hurts If I gotta cry to get to the other side, let's go 'cause we're gon' survive oh We stay on the front lines Yeah but we're still here after the bomb drops We go so hard we lose control The fire starts then we explode When the smoke clears we dry our tears Only in love and war Sometimes you're my general, you quarterback all these plays Sometimes you're my enemy and I'm throwin' grenades We'll just be chillin' and laughin', I'm layin' on your chest Don't know what happened 'cause things just went left But here we go back down that road That's just the way that it goes 'Cause we made it this far on for better or worse I wanna feel it even if it hurts If I gotta cry to get to the other side, as long as you're there I'll survive oh We stay on the front lines Yeah but we're still here after the bomb drops We go so hard we lose control The fire starts then we explode When the smoke clears we dry our tears Only in love and war As long as we make up after every fight when it's over You know I'm comin' home right there where I belong I'm takin' off this armor oh-oh-oh-whoa-ooh-oh-oh And we stay on the front lines Yeah but we're still here after the bomb drops We go so hard we lose control The fire starts then we explode baby When the smoke clears we dry our tears Only in love and war Only in love and war Only in love and war Writer/s: Darhyl Camper, Las
