On 23 August, Harris announced via Facebook that he was filming the music video for "Sweet Nothing" with Florence and the Machine.[34] The video was filmed over two days at a working men's club in Dalston, London, under the direction of Vincent Haycock[35] who also directed Harris' videos for "Flashback", "Bounce" and "Feel So Close". The exterior shots were filmed close to Stepney Methodist Church Bus Stop on Commercial Road, Limehouse, London. The music video premiered on 20 September 2012 through Harris' YouTube VEVO channel.[36] The video stars Harris and Welch, as well as English actors Leo Gregory[37] and Kianoush Joseph.[38] The video begins with Gregory sitting in a restaurant after breaking up with Welch. As he leaves the restaurant he passes his food to a hooded man, who becomes confused as to why Gregory gave it to him. Meanwhile, Florence Welch is seen in a suit onstage at a nightclub where she is performing. Gregory gets stopped on his way by a group of men who start assaulting him. He tries to fight back, resulting in an even more severe beating. While he gets beaten, Welch seems to "feel" pain as she sings on the stage. This segment is interspersed with scenes of Gregory fighting with his girlfriend and his girlfriend telling her story to Calvin Harris. Harris watches as Welch takes off her suit and tie and frees her hair to reveal herself as the girlfriend being abused by Gregory. This is when we are shown how Calvin Harris, who, after listening to Florence Welch's story of her and Gregory's violent relationship and break-up, executes her revenge by arranging to have Gregory beaten up. Welch continues her angry and energetic dancing as the video ends, along with the flashbacks, with Gregory still being assaulted by the men, and Gregory's girlfriend still distraught in the bathroom
This electro-disco track about a lover who gives, "such sweet nothing," features the vocals of Florence Welch from Florence + the Machine. The singer previously linked up with Harris when his remix of her Ceremonials track, "Spectrum" shot to the top of the UK singles chart. The song was premiered on Chris Moyle's BBC Radio 1 breakfast show on August 28, 2012. The Vincent Haycock directed video was filmed over two days in a Working Men's Club in Dalston, London. It features Welch as a singer in a small, dingy, Serbian nightclub. Surrounded by a violent life and fearful of her future, Florence unleashes a ferocious performance. When this debuted at #1 on the UK singles chart it broke a run of second place finishes for Calvin Harris, as his previous four singles as lead artist had all stalled at #2. Regarding the 18 Months album title, Harris explained: "It was a mixture between 18 months studio time and gigs and also it was kind of a point when I stopped performing in a certain way with a band and singing all the time and ... just focused on production and Djing. So it made sense to draw that line there and it just happened to be 18 months before I finished the album." This was the first single that Welch had sung on that reached the top 10 of the Hot 100. Her previous best chart ranking had been the #21 position of her own group's Florence + the Machine's "Dog Days Are Over" in 2010. Calvin Harris was named as the most successful songwriter in the UK singles chart in 2012. As well as a string of hits from his 18 Months album, Harris also penned several big sellers for other artists including Call My Name by Cheryl Cole and Rihanna's "We Found Love."
You took my heart, and you held it in your mouth And with the word, all my love came rushing out And every whisper, it's the worst Emptied out by a single word There is a hollow in me now So I'll put my faith in something unknown I'm living on such sweet nothing But I'm tired of hope with nothing to hold I'm living on such sweet nothing And it's hard to learn And it's hard to love When you're giving me such sweet nothing Sweet nothing Sweet nothing You're giving me such sweet nothing It isn't easy for me to let it go 'Cause I've swallow every single word And every whisper, every sigh Eats away at this heart of mine And there is a hollow in me now So I'll put my faith in something unknown I'm living on such sweet nothing But I'm tired of hope with nothing to hold I'm living on such sweet nothing And it's hard to learn And it's hard to love When you're giving me such sweet nothing Sweet nothing Sweet nothing You're giving me such sweet nothing And it's not enough to tell me that you care When we both know the words are empty air You give me nothing Nothing Sweet nothing Sweet nothing
