The music video for the song is the first of the Young Blood Chronicles, an ongoing series with the band filming a video for every song on Save Rock and Roll. It begins late at night, with a figure – later revealed to be rapper 2 Chainz – walking away from a black van parked in a forest clearing. He starts a bonfire by pouring gasoline over a wood pile and lighting it up with a match. Two women then exit the van, carrying various musical instruments belonging to Fall Out Boy, among them the band's guitars, a bass, drumsticks and various drums and cymbals, before tossing the items into the fire. The women also throw in amplifiers and Fall Out Boy records such as Take This To Your Grave, From Under the Cork Tree and Live in Phoenix, along with a Fall Out Boy wristband and Fall Out Toy Works comics. 2 Chainz then uses a flamethrower to hasten the incineration process, while the women return to the van and open its rear doors, revealing four hooded, bound men implied to be Fall Out Boy themselves. The camera then closes in on 2 Chainz's face as he holds up a match and stares at the band menacingly, ending the video.[12] Fall Out Boy's capture is shown in the music video for the following single, "The Phoenix", released on March 25, 2013. Critical reception
The announcement of Fall Out Boy's return to music on February 4, 2013 after a 3-plus year hiatus came out of nowhere. Alongside this single, the Chicago pop-punk act also revealed details of their Save Rock And Roll album. "When we were kids the only thing that got us through most days was music," the quartet said in a statement. "It's why we started Fall Out Boy in the first place. This isn't a reunion because we never broke up. We needed to plug back in and make some music that matters to us. The future of Fall Out Boy starts now. Save Rock And Roll." Fans responded, making this song (along with "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons), one of the rare rock songs to dominate the pop landscape in the later half of 2013. Most hits of this time were EDM, R&B, or straight pop songs. Bassist Pete Wentz explained on his website that the album title is not meant to be taken literally. "One of the problems with rock lately is that people take things too seriously," he said. "Fall Out Boy has always played with irony and tried to take the piss out of ourselves as much as anyone else." The song's viral video sees Fall Out Boy's past going up in flames as rapper 2 Chainz sets the band's albums on fire. The artists are on the same label (Island Def Jam), and Wentz told MTV News how he and the Harlem MC discussed the collaboration over dinner. "The night I went out with 2 Chainz to talk about this, we took a picture together," he said. "He posted it on the Internet like, 'Fall Out Boy featuring 2 Chainz.' Kids were like, 'That's not real.' "The stuff we were doing was so crazy, it was like disbelief," Wentz added. "It was like, 'Nah. Definitely they're gonna be playing on a TV show, but not [working with] rappers.'" This was the song that Fall Out Boy decided to build the album around after their hiatus. Wentz told Kerrang! magazine: "It redefined what we were gonna do. It felt undeniably like us, but it didn't sound like anything we had done before. That was key to the whole spirit of coming back. We didn't want to go through the motions and plagiarize ourselves. It was important to make something that excited us and sounded new." The song was used as music to accompany the Canadian and American television coverage of the 2013 Stanley Cup playoffs. This song was far from new. It was originally a demo that didn't quite make it onto Fall Out Boy's 2005 From Under the Cork Tree album. Wentz told Alternative Press back in 2005: "We didn't include this song because we never really got a verse we liked. The chorus is really poppy with still kind of weird timing. I really like the line, 'My songs know what you did in the dark.' It's got kind of a malicious, voyeuristic undertone." This was used these TV shows: Hit The Floor ("Lights Out" - 2013) Criminal Minds ("Brothers Hotchner" - 2013) 90210 ("Scandal Royale" - 2013) And in these movies: Ice Age: Collision Course (2016) Pitch Perfect 2 (2015) Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters (2013) Frontman Patrick Stump performed this when he was a guest on Taylor Swift's Red tour in 2013. Fall Out Boy had to reinvent themselves upon their return to the music industry, which had changed since they left. Guitarist Joe Trohman told Kerrang! how this tune was significant in their transition as a modern band: "It represents our return after those years of not being in a band. I don't think we assumed anything about that. Prior to us coming back, the music industry was a different beast. America, at least, was somewhat interested in bands and guitars, then we stopped doing Fall Out Boy, and when we came back guitars were not of interest anymore - especially on pop radio. So we had no idea whether people would still care about us. We wondered whether or not we would make any impact. But we did, and people were excited, plus we got this whole new, younger fanbase out of it. If you put a checkpoint in time in the history of this band, this song marks the beginning of Fall Out Boy 2.0."
