The video features the Weeknd dancing in a deserted planet, as he waits for a woman entombed in stone to return to life. As he dances, she suddenly appears in a glowing form,[61] and they watch sunsets and shooting stars together,[64] until she returns to her stone state following an eclipse. To the horror of the Weeknd, she crumbles. After seeing a black snake emerge from the rubble, the Weeknd attempts to reach for it, before turning into stone himself. Over time, he erodes and is covered by snow. Daft Punk appears at the end, playing cloaked explorers, finding the remains of the Weeknd
The Weeknd sings here of a girl who has had bad experiences in previous relationships and the singer is attempting to reassure her: So baby, I can make it right You just got to let me try To give you what you want The Weeknd is a huge advocate in the power of sex to bring two people together. The chorus is made up of the lines "I feel it coming. I feel it coming, babe," sung four times. The Weeknd's description of the feeling of impending orgasm drawing nearer by repeating the lyrics emphasises the intensity of the moment. Daft Punk join The Weeknd on the hook. The French duo also co-wrote the song, their second Starboy collaboration following the album's title track. The Weeknd told the Wall Street Journal that writing the two songs with Daft Punk was quite an experience. "Their studio is like a spaceship; there's a lot of gear," he said, "but the way they make music, the way they explain it, is very cinematic. It's like they're reading a page out of a novel: 'We want to make sure that at the end, it feels like the sun's coming up, and maybe there's a car chase.' They can get technical, but it was interesting how they visualise making music." The Weeknd recalled to Zane Lowe how he created the track with Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk. "So I came in, we went to Paris. I came into the session and Thomas and Guy-Manuel had already started a track, which was 'I Feel It Coming,' which was just the music," he said. "And it was one of the tracks that they were playing for me and I was freestyling over it, trying to find a vibe with it. You know, Guy-Manuel and Thomas were kind of directing me on how to make it...'cause they want it to sound as authentic as possible." The Weeknd performed this song with Daft Punk at the Grammy Awards in 2017 on a set that looked like the Fortress of Solitude. The video was directed by Warren Fu of SeeOutLoud Productions, who's also behind the clips for Daft Punk's Random Access Memories tracks "Get Lucky," "Lose Yourself to Dance" and "Instant Crush." The visual features Abel Tesfaye on some distant rocky planet in another galaxy having a doomed romance with a beautiful state-shifting alien played by model Kiko Mizuhara. The Daft Punk duo appear towards the end of the video in Darth Vader-like outfits. (Spoiler alert!) Tesfaye and Mizuhara end up getting turned to stone. Their fate was inspired by a variety of images and memories from Fu's childhood including the iconic image of a victim of the Pompeii volcanic eruption in 79 AD that froze some of the city's people mid-gesture in an ashen tomb. "I was thinking conceptually of the people who were entombed in the volcanic ash of Mt. Vesuvius... that pose," Fu told Billboard magazine. "I looked it up after we had shot it, and I realized I must have seen that photo of the guy reaching out. When I was on set with Abel, I said, 'Reach out your hand in this way like you're yearning for something, as if God has turned his back on you.'" The Weeknd sang this during his halftime performance at the 2021 Super Bowl. No Daft Punk though, or any special guests for that matter, as he kept it solo, in part due to restrictions imparted by the coronavirus pandemic.
