Having presented himself as a serial liar and cheater on his previous albums, The Weekend appears to be changing his ways on Dawn FM. Abel regrets his lack of commitment to his past partners; he was hard to love, and because of his hedonistic behavior, he feels less than zero. Now the boot is on the other foot as the Canadian crooner worries his girlfriend is being unfaithful. The Weeknd wrote "Is There Someone Else?" with: Brooklyn, New York-based producer Oneohtrix Point Never. The experimental electronic producer and composer contributed to two tracks on The Weeknd's After Hours album and served as the musical director behind The Canadian R&B star's 2021 Super Bowl halftime show. Ariana Grande's go-to collaborator Tommy "TBHits" Brown. The Los Angeles-based producer has worked with Grande since her 2013 debut, Yours Truly. Ariana Grande's regular violinist and string arranger Peter Lee Johnson. The Weeknd, Johnson, TBHits and Oneohtrix Point Never co-produced the keyboard-based song with additional programming by Max Martin and Oscar Holter. The producers didn't sample the helium vocals at the beginning of the song. They're The Weeknd's voice pitched up. The Weeknd released the song's music video on January 8, 2023 to celebrate the first anniversary of Dawn FM. The voyeuristic Cliqua-directed clip is reminiscent of the 1986 film 9½ Weeks and co-stars Mackenzee Wilson as the singer's love interest. Cliqua also helmed the visuals for the album's "Take My Breath," "Sacrifice" and "Out Of Time."
