Here, Morgan Wallen is trying to drink away the memory of a broken relationship, but no matter what time or place he downs his drinks, he can't forget his ex. He's tried throwing down the whiskey, taking double shots of vodka, even mixing liquors, but nothing makes his heartbreak go away. Wallen has even been pulling 90- to 100-proof beverages to put his former lover behind him, but nothing is "you proof." Wallen wrote the song with: His buddy Ernest Keith Smith. He contributed to 11 tracks on Wallen's Dangerous album. Songwriter Ashley Gorley, who co-penned three Dangerous tracks, including "Sand In My Boots." Producer Charlie Handsome. Though he works primarily with R&B and hip-hop acts, Handsome has dipped his toes into country music before, including Kane Brown's "Be Like That" and Florida Georgia Line's "I Love My Country." He previously worked with Morgan Wallen on his Lil Durk collaboration, "Broadway Girls." Wallen first teased a snippet of the song on Instagram on July 5, 2021. He released it as a single on his 29th birthday, May 13, 2022. Proof is the measure of alcohol content in a beverage, with 200 proof being pure alcohol - most rums, vodkas and other spirits are about 80 proof (40% alcohol). In case you're wondering, the strongest liquor you'll find on a shelf in the United States is the Polish-made vodka Spirytus. Approved to be sold in New York State, it comes in at 192 proof, or 96% alcohol. The song debuted at #1 on the Country chart. It became Morgan Wallen's third consecutive single to premiere at the chart's summit, following "Don't Think Jesus" and "Thought You Should Know."
