"Break My Heart" is a song about fake friends. Rod Wave highlights a pal he used to hang out with since their schooldays. They played truant and broke into houses together, but once Wave became famous, his friend's attitude towards him changed. Now the rapper finds it hard to tell the "real from the fake and the fake from the flawed." It breaks Wave's heart that he doesn't know who he can trust anymore. Wave samples some of Sam Smith's vocals from his 2022 hit "Love Me More" to show how his struggle to make real friends has affected his self-esteem. TnTXD is one of Rod Wave's go-to beatmakers. The South Carolina producer contributed to six of the 24 songs on his 2022 Beautiful Mind album. TrillGotJuice previously worked with Wave on his 2020 "All Week" track. Wave released "Break My Heart" as the lead single from his Jupiter's Diary: 7 Day Theory EP on November 4, 2022.
