"Going, Going, Gone" is a heartbreak song where Luke Combs sings of falling in love with a free spirit. Because the girl follows her own path, Combs knows there's no way he can stop her from disappearing when she wants to move on. During the chorus, Combs compares the girl's reluctance to stick around to things that happen over a short period. Combs penned "Going, Going, Gone" with his frequent writing partner Ray Fulcher, and with James McNair ("Lovin' On You," "On the Other Line"). He's not the same Steve Mackey as the English musician who was Pulp's bass guitarist.
