"Days That End In Why" finds Morgan Wallen asking why his relationship ended. His girl never told him why she's leaving him, and he's thought and prayed over why she threw in the towel. Now, Wallen is left with a slew of unanswered questions and a half-full bed. The song title is a double entendre. It references Wallen not only questioning why their romance dissolved, but also the fact that all seven days of the week end in "Y." There's no letup for Wallen's heartbreak, and he's dealing with his sadness on every day that ends in "Y" - in other words, every day. Several times in the song, Wallen mentions drowning out his sorrows with booze, hinting to the listener his drinking may have triggered the breakup. Eric Church's guitarist, Driver Williams, wrote the song with Blake Pendergrass and John Byron. Pendergrass and Bryon also co-wrote Wallen's "865," Chris Lane's "Summer Job Money" and Chase Rice's "Key West & Colorado." "Days That End in Why" is one of three tracks Wallen released on December 2, 2022, as part of One Thing At a Time (Sampler). The EP serves as an appetizer for his third studio album.
Been playing twenty questions with twenty-four cans 24/7 'til I understand I sent a prayer up for a helping hand But it must've got stopped by the ceiling fan I'm staring at In this half full bed looking for a reason that I ain't found yet I know how a goodbye sounds when it's pedal down in tail light glow I know what she said and I won't forget where she told me to go But hell ever since them Goodyears pulled right out my dead grass drive It's been nights that start with whiskey And days that end in why Like why she finally threw in the towel With her makeup bag and her hand me down earrings And why she never felt the need To tell me what I did, why she packed her things And why she left me searching at the bottom of this bourbon I know how a goodbye sounds when it's pedal down in tail light glow I know what she said and I won't forget where she told me to go But hell ever since them Goodyears pulled right out my dead grass drive It's been nights that start with whiskey And days that end in why Whether it's them damn I miss you Tuesdays That keep me up all night Or them take me way back Wednesdays that drift back through my mind I know how a goodbye sounds when it's pedal down in tail light glow I know what she said and I won't forget where she told me to go But hell ever since them Goodyears pulled right out my dead grass drive It's been nights that start with whiskey And days that end in why Ah, it's been nights that start with whiskey And days that end in why
