"I Wrote The Book" is a reflective ballad where Morgan Wallen evaluates himself. He acknowledges his strengths but also his shortcomings in terms of being a good person. Wallen starts off the song with two verses that highlight his knowledge of country life (hitching the boat, driving the truck, finding wood logs) and baseball. He suggests he's written a book on each topic. However, the chorus presents a change of pace as Wallen confesses he's not familiar with the Bible, admitting he doesn't read it enough to consider himself an expert. Following on these reflections, Morgan muses on his previous girlfriend leaving him. He fears that his shortcomings may have caused her to split and decides those failings are because he's neglected the Bible. He concludes the Good Book is a book he never wrote but needs to read to learn how to be a better human. Morgan Wallen wrote "I Wrote The Book" with his good friend and frequent collaborator Hardy ("More Than My Hometown," "Sand In My Boots" and Cameron Montgomery (Ryan Follesé's "Float Your Boat," Kane Brown's "Hometown").
