The four-leaf clover has been considered a symbol of good luck for centuries because it's rare to find. The likelihood of finding a clover with four leaves is estimated to be around 1 in 10,000. Therefore, when people do find one, they often see it as a lucky omen. A five-leaf clover is even rarer to find than a four-leaf clover, so it is considered even luckier. Some people believe that the extra leaf represents wealth, while others think it symbolizes fame, health, or love. Here, Luke Combs uses the 5-leaf clover as a metaphor for his gratitude for all the good fortune he's received. Now I know I'm a lucky man, but I ain't sure why I am Cuz it ain't like anyone deserves the world in the palm of their hand I've hit my knees, thankful as can be But the one thing I can't get over Is how'd a guy like me, who'd have been fine with three Wind up with a five-leaf clover? Throughout each verse, Combs reflects on the good things in his life: an enjoyable job, a loving wife, great friends, a fridge full of cold beer, and more. He knows he's blessed and is a little shocked that all these good things have come his way. Combs wrote "5 Leaf Clover" with Jessi Alexander and Chase McGill. Its inspiration came from a search Combs did with his buddy Newdy for four-leaf clovers in the clover plot at the singer's house. Combs eventually found one, then was surprised to find a five-leaf clover shortly thereafter. He thought to himself, "Wow, how lucky do you have to be to find a five-leaf clover?" Although he didn't think much of it at the time, he wrote the title down on his phone. A few weeks later, while writing with Jessi Alexander and Chase McGill, Combs shared the idea and guitar melody he had for "5 Leaf Clover." Although it didn't initially strike him as anything special, they ended up loving it and wrote the song that day. Combs started playing "5 Leaf Clover" at shows and posted a video of the song on July 1, 2021. His fans responded enthusiastically, so he recorded it for Getting' Old. Combs released "5 Leaf Clover" as a promotional single on March 17, 2023 – St. Patrick's Day. "Shamrock" is the Irish word for clover. Specifically, it refers to a three-leafed clover. In the fifth century, St. Patrick used the shamrock to explain the doctrine of the Holy Trinity, using the three leaves on one stem to represent the Christian teaching of three persons (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) united in one God. Today, shamrocks have become a symbol of St. Patrick's Day and some people wear sprigs of shamrock in their buttonholes on the holiday.
[Verse 1] Well, I go to work every Monday Get to do something I love And I make it home every evening To an angel God sent from above Got an eight point on camera from last year That this season looks like a ten I got a barn with a fridge full of cold beer On the weekend it's full of good friends [Chorus] I know I'm a lucky man, but I ain't sure why I am 'Cause it ain't like anyone deserves the world in the palm of their hand Now I hit my knees, thankful as can be But the one thing I can't get over How'd a guy like me, who'd have been fine with three Wind up with a five-leaf clover?
