Benny Blanco and Cashmere Cat also produced the '80s-esque track. Gomez originally recorded the going-out anthem for her third studio album, Rare. It was later discarded along with all the other material she recorded with Benny Blanco and Cashmere Cat. However, "Single Again" was re-worked and released on August 25, 2023. "Y'all have been asking for new music for a while," Gomez wrote on social media to announce the song. "Since I'm not quite done with SG3, I wanted to put out a fun little song I wrote a while back that's perfect for the end of summer." Philip Andelman directed the music video, which kicks off with Gomez penning a note that spells out, "I'm sorry, I can't, don't hate me." She slides it onto the desk of an ex, a move that gives a playful nod to a signature moment from Sex and the City when Jack Berger abruptly breaks up with Carrie Bradshaw via a terse sticky note. "Single Soon" takes a nod from Miley Cyrus' hit song "Flowers." Both songs are about heartbreak and moving on, but they approach the topic in different ways. "Single Soon" is a more upbeat and positive song, while "Flowers" is more reflective and melancholy. Coincidentally, Cyrus released her song "Used To Be Young" the same day Gomez dropped "Single Now."
