"Lace It" is a collaboration between Juice WRLD and Eminem. It finds the two rappers spitting truth about the dangers and consequences of drug addiction. Juice kicks off the song with the chorus where he talks about the various drugs he takes. Roll it up, lace it, pop a few to chase it I'm in my own Matrix, none of this s--t makes sense All these humans basic, don't got no home trainin' Codeine by the cases, I've been purple rainin' "Lace it" refers to adding additional substances to a drug. "Purple rain," or "lean" is an illicit concoction typically based on promethazine-codeine cough syrup, soda or fruit juice, and a hard candy. In the first verse, Juice spills about stress, popping pills like it's a show. Eminem jumps in for the second verse with some talk about his close call with death from methadone. After starting with ecstasy, he ended up in a painkiller mess before finally getting clean in 2008 after a near overdose. Em then lays down the cold truth about addiction, needing pills to help you do what you love. Fame's a blessing and a curse - you can afford the syrup, but it messes you up bad. After listing many addicting medicines to be careful about, Eminem lists some of the rappers lost to the drug game (Shock G, Lil Peep, ODB, Gangsta Boo, Pimp C) before he summons the names of two greats - Prince and Michael Jackson - whose deaths were also connected with opioids. He hopes future generations will take more care because he doesn't want to lose more legends like Juice WRLD. Eminem has previously spoken about his struggles with drug addiction, most notably on the 2009 Relapse track, "Beautiful." This is the second collaboration between Juice WRLD and Eminem. Back in January 2020, Eminem dropped "Godzilla," which includes a hook by Juice. It was the Chicago rapper's first posthumous release following his death on December 8, 2019. In a statement, Juice WRLD's mother, Carmela Wallace, reminisced about her son's love for Eminem. Benny Blanco created the bass-filled production. The producer worked with Juice on several occasions during his tragically short life. Their collaborations include "Black & White," "Roses," "Graduation" and "Real S--t." "Lace It" is the first time Eminem has appeared on a Blanco production. Juice's label, Grade A Productions, released "Lace It" as a single from the rapper's third posthumous album, The Party Never Ends, on December 16, 2023.
