The Texas sun beats down on a heartbroken dream. Packed and ready for a fresh start in LA, Dasha finds herself alone. Her partner, the one who promised to chase the sunset with her, is nowhere to be found. Betrayal stings worse than a scorpion bite. Her suitcase full of hopes and dreams feels heavy with the weight of a broken promise. Bitterness seeps into her voice as she questions his excuses. "Did your boots stop workin'? Did your truck break down?" Dust devils swirl around her anger. Tears welling up, Dasha turns her back on the town that once held the promise of a future together. Los Angeles beckons, a beacon of a new life, but the echo of his absence hangs heavy in the air. Dasha delivers a final caustic blow: "Forty years you'll still be here," she whispers, "drunk washed up in Austin." Dasha teamed up with songwriters Adam Wendler and Cheyenne Rose Arnspiger, along with producer Travis Heidelman to create this empowering track. "Austin" isn't your typical heartbreak ballad. Forget the slow tempo and melancholic mood often associated with the genre. This song is a feisty anthem, propelled by handclaps, a folksy fiddle, and a boot-stomping rhythm perfect for line dancing. Its infectious groove echoes the energy of Beyoncé's "Texas Hold 'Em." "Austin" exploded on TikTok, garnering international attention. It followed "Texas Hold 'Em" into the charts worldwide, becoming 2024's second Lone Star State-sized country-pop hit. The song is not to be confused with the 2001 Blake Shelton hit of the same title.
We had a plan, move out of this town, baby West to the sand, it's all we talked about lately I'd pack the car, bring your guitar and Jane for smoking First thing at dawn you'd cue the songs and we'd get going But you weren't home, waited on the porch for ya Sat there alone, all throughout the morn 'til I Got a hunch, down in my gut and snuck around the back Empty cans and I'll be damned, your shit was never packed Did your boots stop workin'? Did your truck break down? (Truck break down) Did you burn through money? Did your ex find out? (Ex find out) Where there's a will then there's a way And I'm damn sure you lost it Didn't even say goodbye Just wish I knew what caused it Was the whiskey flowin'? Were you in a fight? (In a fight) Did the nerves come get you? What's your alibi? (Alibi) I made my way back to LA And that's where you'll be forgotten In forty years you'll still be here Drunk, washed up in Austin A hell of bluff you had me believin' How many months did you plan on leaving? What happened? Bad habits? Did you go back? Go batshit? I loved you, how tragic ohh-oh Did your boots stop workin'? Did your truck break down? (Truck break down) Did you burn through money? Did your ex find out? (Ex find out) Where there's a will then there's a way And I'm damn sure you lost it Didn't even say goodbye Just wish I knew what caused it Was the whiskey flowing? Were you in a fight? (In a fight) Did the nerves come get you? What's your alibi? (Alibi) I made my way back to LA And that's where you'll be forgotten In forty years you'll still be here Drunk, washed up in Austin Did your truck break down? Did you ex find out?
