"Hang Tight Honey" is a country barn-burner that celebrates the grit and determination of folks chasing their dreams no matter the cost. Lainey Wilson lays it all out there, singing about the thrill of the crowds and the long stretches of highway in between. But even amid the bright lights and sold-out shows, she's missing her sweetheart back home. Her temporary house might be a bus with four wheels, but there's a heart aching for a real one. "This one's an anthem for the hard working men and women that get up every dang day and put in long hours to make a life worth living for the ones they love most," said Wilson. The lyrics feel straight out of Lainey's own life story. She wrote them with Driver Williams, Jason Nix, and Paul Sikes. Wilson went public with her beau, former football star Devlin "Duck" Hodges, at the 2023 ACM Awards, and you can hear the echo of their love in every line. "I've been runnin' the roads nonstop for a few years now and I ain't gonna lie to y'all, sometimes it can be tough being away from home that much," admitted Wilson. "At the same time, remembering what 'home' is and the things that I get to do for the ones I love because of the work I put in, is what keeps me going and makes it all worthwhile." Released on May 13, 2024, "Hang Tight Honey" is the lead single from Wilson's fifth album, Whirlwind. It's her first radio single that dives into her personal love story, and it's also her most aggressive one yet. The song explodes with energy, incorporating a guitar solo and a rhythm section that drives the tempo. While Wilson has cut peppy tracks on her previous records, only "Wildflowers And Wild Horses" has been promoted on country radio. Jay Joyce is the man behind the boards. The producer is known for crafting uptempo radio-friendly hits for the likes of Eric Church and Brothers Osborne. Wilson debuted "Hang Tight Honey" live on May 17, 2024, when she opened the 2024 ACM Awards with a scorching performance of the song. The singer took home the awards for Entertainer of the Year, Female Artist of the Year and Music Event of the Year for "Save Me" with Jelly Roll.
