The music video for "Weren't for the Wind" premiered on March 25, 2025.[7] Langley, who co-directed the video with Wales Toney, stars alongside a love interest played by Kade Hafner and her dog, Crue.[6] In it, Langley is shown getting engaged and telling her fiancé about her career aspirations, though they are met with opposition from him as he makes attempts to stifle her dreams of becoming a country music star, leading to Langley breaking things off and continuing on her solo journey.[6] A week prior to the release of the music video, Langley posted a teaser on social media that showed the singer sporting a ring on her left hand,[8] which led to engagement rumors, before the singer clarified that it was for the storyline of the video
"Weren't For The Wind" is a cinematic ballad with a dusty, road-worn melody. Ella Langley examines her restless spirit and tendency to move on from relationships and places, using the wind as a metaphor for her wanderlust. While Langley hasn't outright confirmed that "Weren't For The Wind" is ripped from the pages of her own romantic history, it has all the hallmarks of a song written by someone who has packed up a few too many times and left a handful of bewildered exes in her wake. In a conversation with Tracy Lawrence, Langley spoke about her restless personality and constant drive to pursue opportunities in her music career. She mentioned having a "determined drive" and a "passionate personality," which aligns with the themes of restlessness and wanderlust in "Weren't For The Wind." Langley co-wrote the song with the Nashville-based songwriters Johnny Clawson and Joybeth Taylor. Johnny Clawson is a songwriter and artist from Leesburg, Virginia, who signed his first publishing deal with SMACKSongs in 2022. He's co-written songs for established artists like Blake Shelton ("Texas") and Chris Young ("Getting Older"). Joybeth Taylor is a singer-songwriter originally from Pelham, Alabama, who moved to Nashville to pursue her songwriting career. She released her debut EP as an artist, I See Memories, in 2019. Taylor co-penned six tracks for Langley's debut album, Hungover. Production duties fell to Langley's go-to collaborator Will Bundy, who ensured that the track's rhythm captured exactly the kind of breezy, untethered energy that Langley seems to embody in real life. "Weren't for the Wind" landed on Still Hungover, the deluxe edition of Hungover, and was chosen as the first single from the reissue in early 2025.
I wouldn't paint me as a heartbreaker But I've said a few goodbyes I'd make a promise but I know later I'm bound to change my mind Depending on the weather, I'm goin' An' hell, baby, nobody knows when Yeah, if it was a different time Might've been different in a different life Maybe that plane wouldn't ever take off Maybe that dust wouldn't fly off the drive Maybe that tumbleweed and me Wouldn't leave every other sunrise Maybe I'd settle down, dig in some roots Find me a farmhouse, find me a you Maybe I wouldn't be already gone again If it weren't for the wind I wouldn't stay wonderin' what's out there I wouldn't saddle up on a breeze I wouldn't disappear out of thin air I could put down these wings Maybe that plane wouldn't ever take off Maybe that dust wouldn't fly off the drive Maybe that tumbleweed and me Wouldn't leave every other sunrise Maybe I'd settle down, dig in some roots Find me a farmhouse, find me a you Maybe I wouldn't be already gone again If it weren't for the wind Blowin', carryin' me to the wide open White lines rollin' and the tires smokin' It wouldn't be the rearview I'm lookin' in If it weren't for the wind If it weren't for the wind Maybe that plane wouldn't ever take off Maybe that dust wouldn't fly off the drive Maybe that tumbleweed and me Wouldn't leave every other sunrise Maybe I'd settle down, dig in some roots Find me a farmhouse, find me a you Maybe I wouldn't be already gone again If it weren't for the wind Blowin', carryin' me to the wide open White lines rollin' and the tires smokin' It wouldn't be the rearview I'm lookin' in If it weren't for the wind If it weren't for the wind
