"Just Us," a collaboration between Jack Harlow and Doja Cat, is a lively collection of playful lyricism that practically winks at you as it unfurls. The pair toss out hooks and suggestive one-liners with the ease of people who have spent a considerable portion of their careers doing exactly that. Jack Harlow kicks things off, his verse dripping with flirtation, humor, and a dizzying number of pop culture references, including a nod to The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. Then enters Doja Cat, whose verse sprinkles in references to Pac-Man, Harlow's past work, and the peculiarities of fame, all while keeping it light and sensual. Harlow made it clear this wasn't just another song on his checklist. "Doja and I both emerged into music culture around the same time - right around the pandemic," he explained. "We kind of became cool on the internet, and then when the world opened back up, we kept crossing paths. But I've been wanting to do a song with Doja for four or five years." The timing, as Harlow puts it, had to be just right. "I sent her the song, and we were just talking one day. She mentioned something she was working on, and I was like, 'Funny you should say that - I have a song for you.' I sent it over, and she immediately loved it. Knocked it out. And you can tell - her verse isn't just phoned in. It's long, full of flow switches, packed with lines. She really put her foot into it." Hollywood Cole, Tay Keith, Angel "Babe Truth" Lopez, OjiVolta, and Dylan Graham produced the track. Atlanta-based producer Hollywood Cole worked closely with Jack Harlow on his 2023 Jackman album. Tay Keith has credits alongside artists like Travis Scott' ("Sicko Mode") and Drake ("Jimmy Cooks, "First Person Shooter"). Angel Lopez has collaborated with Jack Harlow on previous projects, including hits like "Nail Tech" and "First Class." Ojivolta is a writer/producer duo from Pennsylvania and Miami comprising Mark Williams and Raul Cubina. Their other credits include Shawn Mendes' "If I Can't Have You," The Weeknd's "Timeless" and 19 tracks on Kanye West's Donda album. Williams also helped create Shaboozey's smash hit "A Bar Song (Tipsy)." Dylan Graham, whose resumé includes Summer Walker's "Toxic" and Muni Long's "Hrs And Hrs," rounds out the team. "Just Us" samples Boslen feat. Rascalz's 2021 track "NOTE TO THE CITY (INTERLUDE)" throughout. Tory Lanez also borrowed the same sample for his 2022 song "I Like." Neal Farmer directed the video, which is set in a lively Los Angeles restaurant called Horses. It finds Jack Harlow and Doja Cat trying to connect intimately in a crowded space populated by numerous celebrities. The guest list reads like the seating chart for the most eclectic dinner party imaginable: Matt Damon (presumably enjoying a brief break from promoting his latest film). John Mayer, a man who knows a thing or two about charm. PinkPantheress, representing the UK. DJ Drama, hip-hop's favorite hype man. Nicholas Braun, aka Cousin Greg from Succession, likely looking just as confused as ever. Taylor Rooks, the journalist everyone in sports wants to talk to. Malcolm Todd, an emerging artist making waves.
