"Somethin' 'Bout a Woman" is Thomas Rhett's heartfelt ode to his wife, Lauren. The song explores how Lauren has become the central force in his life, eclipsing the influence of external factors like music, alcohol, or the moon. Rhett candidly admits that he's now completely reliant on her, highlighting the profound impact she has had on him. The inspiration came from an unexpected source: a late-night comment by Rhett's bus driver suggesting he write "something about a woman." A seemingly throwaway line led to a deeply personal track, and considering Lauren's long-standing role as his muse, it's no surprise. Rhett's catalog is peppered with love songs dedicated to her, including "Die a Happy Man," "Star of the Show," "Marry Me," "Look What God Gave Her," "Us Someday" and "Beautiful As You." Rhett co-wrote "Somethin' 'Bout a Woman" with former One Direction hitmakers John Ryan, Julian Bunetta and Andrew Haas. Bunetta, who co-produced the song with Dan Huff (Keith Urban, Lady A) crafted a blues-rock sound with a late-night groove, a contrast to Rhett's signature country style. Rhett originally included "Somethin' 'Bout a Woman" as a solo track on his seventh album, About a Woman, which draws heavily on his personal love story with his wife, Lauren. The song continues the album's theme of exploring different facets of love and attraction. Rhett released a soulful duet version with Teddy Swims on November 15, 2024, marking the third collaboration between the pair. According to Rhett, after first meeting through their mutual producer Julian Bunetta in 2020, "it was pretty much instant musical chemistry." Rhett sang on "Broke," a track from Swims' 2021 debut EP Unlearning. They later penned Rhett's 2022 song "Angels (Don't Always Have Wings)" in under an hour.
