"Back to Friends" is a song about that uniquely awkward post-breakup phase where you and your former romantic partner attempt to downgrade each other from "intimate confidant" to "just some person I know." It's a transition that rarely goes well, and Sombr captures the emotional whiplash of it all - how one moment you're sharing a bed with someone, and the next, they're acting as if you're someone they've never met. The inspiration, as is often the case with heartbreak anthems, comes from personal experience. In an interview with Firebird magazine, Sombr said emotional turmoil is something of a creative goldmine for him. And what better way to process the absurdity of post-romantic friendships than by turning it into a song? Sombr produced the track, which leans into an indie-rock sound. He also pulled a multi-instrumentalist flex by handling bass, drums, keyboards, and piano. The other musicians are: Benny Bock: keyboards and piano Kane Ritchotte: drums Mason Stoops: guitar The track was mixed by Rich Costey. A renowned American producer and engineer, he's known for his work for artists like Muse and Foo Fighters.
