"Soda Pop" is a high-energy, bubblegum K-pop track from the 2025 animated film K-Pop Demon Hunters. In the film, the Saja Boys are a fictional boy band whose members are demons disguised as idols. There's Jinu (the leader), Romance Saja, Mystery Saja, Abs "Abby" Saja, and Baby Saja. The song is the pop equivalent of a can snapping open: fizzy, cheerful, slightly dangerous. And it never lets up. It's chirpy, high-gloss, and just so relentlessly pleasant that you may not notice the lyrics are actually about spiritual consumption. That chorus you can't stop humming is actually about drinking souls. Yes, really. "They feed on souls," the movie's executive music producer Ian Eisendrath told Tudum. "So it was like, 'How do we say that in the most innocent, sparkly, bouncy K-pop way possible?'" Thus, "Soda Pop" was born. Danny Chung (also the voice of Baby Saja), Kush, and Vince wrote the song. All three are signed under the Black Label, a subsidiary of YG Entertainment. Chung's favorite lyric conveys the song's covert intent: Yes, I'm sippin' when it's drippin' now It's done? I need a second round And pour a lot and don't you stop 'Til my soda pop fizzles out On the surface: flirty. On closer inspection: chilling. "It might sound romantic," Chung told Genius, "but it's actually toxic. These guys just want to consume. Even when it's over, they need more." Chung, whose résumé includes lyrics for Blackpink's "How You Like That" and "Shut Down," is no stranger to earworms. He described "Soda Pop" as "cute, bubbly, intentionally annoyingly infectious." Like a Hello Kitty lunchbox hiding a bear trap. Ian Eisendrath co-produced "Soda Pop" with 24 and Dominsuk. 24 and Dominsuk have produced songs for many K-Pop artists under South Korean entertainment company YG Entertainment, including BlackPink and Jeon Somi. The goal with the song, Eisendrath told Tudum, was to "create one of those super bubblegum-y K-pop boy band songs in the style of a song like 'Butter' by BTS." "It's the demons who are evil, but they decide to masquerade as a K-pop boy group, and just be the most appealing, innocent, charming people that have ever been seen performing a K-pop song," he explained. Saja Boys are voiced by: Danny Chung, who provides the rap in the middle of the song. Former K-pop Star finalist Andrew Choi. Singer-producer Neckwav. Ex-U-KISS member Kevin Woo. SamUIL Lee (formerly Taebot). Chung's Baby Saja takes the spotlight for the rap section. "Soda Pop" breaks from The Black Label's typical sound, which leans more toward edgy hip-hop, EDM-pop, and moody rock. This song is intentionally out of character - bright, sparkly, almost cloyingly so - which is the whole point. It's a mask. A glittery disguise for something far darker underneath. So if you find yourself singing "Soda Pop" in the shower, at the gym, or while staring blankly into your own spiritual abyss, just remember: it's not just a bop. It's a warning, wrapped in synths, dipped in cuteness, and shaken until the fizz makes your brain tingle. Sweet. Addictive. Slightly malevolent. Just like soda pop.
