On "So Easy (To Fall In Love)" Olivia Dean insists love doesn't always have to be a grand, cinematic ordeal. She tells a potential romantic interest that love with her is safe, uplifting, and enjoyable. "Some people make it hard, with me, that isn't the case," she sings. The song came from Dean watching her friends fret over first dates. "They'd be so caught up in worrying if the other person will like them," she told Elle. Her mission was to flip that dynamic and put the emphasis on whether they like the other person. "I just wanted to say, 'You'd be really easy to fall in love with. Anyone will be lucky to have you in their life.'" "So Easy (To Fall In Love)," she told the publication, offers "a pat on the back when you're going out the door." It's the same warm, self-assured energy that flowed through her earlier single, "Nice To Each Other," where Dean championed kindness as a quiet form of strength. Dean specifically wrote "So Easy (To Fall In Love)" to uplift other women, though, in a twist, straight men have taken to TikTok to share videos of them serenading their romantic interests with the track. "It's hilarious!" Dean told Elle. "It's actually so sweet that straight men are enjoying the song that way. Sometimes men can be quite obliterated in pop culture and told they're trash or useless. And... sure," she added with a laugh, "but maybe we do need to remind them that we need each other." The song glides on John Ryan's bossa nova guitar, giving the song a breezy groove. With it, Olivia Dean joins the likes of Billie Eilish and Laufey in turning to bossa nova for inspiration. Dean previously utilized the Brazilian genre for her 2023 single "Messy." Dean co-wrote "So Easy (To Fall In Love)" with Amy Allen, John Ryan, and Max Wolfgang, while production came from Ryan, Julian Bunetta, and Zach Nahome. Amy Allen, John Ryan, and Julian Bunetta have frequently worked together on contemporary pop records, most notably with Sabrina Carpenter. They co-wrote and produced many of he tracks on Carpenter 2024 Short n' Sweet album, including hits like "Espresso," and " Please Please Please." Max Wolfgang is the former frontman of the symphonic rock band Wolf Gang and a frequent Dean collaborator. The pair co-wrote seven songs for Dean's The Art of Loving album. Zach Nahome is another familiar name in Dean's sonic family. He also helped craft Dean's "Nice To Each Other," "Lady Lady" and "Man I Need" singles. Dean recorded "So Easy (To Fall In Love)" for her second album, The Art of Loving. The album was born in what Dean called her "House of Loving," a rented London home she filled for eight weeks with friends, musicians, and records by Aretha Franklin and Carole King. The project was inspired by a Los Angeles exhibition based on bell hooks' book All About Love, which reframes affection not as a fairytale but as a skill you can practice and get really good at. "I'd like to be more loving and love people better and myself better," Dean explained to Today. "That's what this album is about, finding out what that actually means."
