"Morning Dew (Donk)" is a sultry, nostalgic R&B track where Beyoncé celebrates a relationship that's lost none of its spark with time. Originally recorded during sessions for her 2013 self-titled album, the song finally emerged on the 20th-anniversary edition of B'Day, pairing the confident sensuality of that era with the perspective of a love that's matured rather than cooled. The title is loaded with double meanings. "Morning dew" evokes the moisture of daybreak while also serving as a playful euphemism for sexual arousal, placing the song squarely in an intimate, early-morning setting. "Donk" carries its own set of suggestive associations, functioning both as slang for male anatomy and as shorthand for "badonkadonk," a curvy backside (see: "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk" by Trace Adkins). Together, they signal a flirtatious, body-conscious song that's more teasing than explicit, like a wink stretched to four minutes. The lyrics echo themes Beyoncé has often explored in relation to her marriage to Jay-Z: finding excitement in the familiarity of a long-term relationship. Everyday moments, such as staying home to watch movies together, sit comfortably alongside more intimate imagery, suggesting that romance doesn't have to disappear simply because the honeymoon suite has long since been exchanged for the living room sofa. Beyoncé co-wrote and co-produced the track with Pharrell Williams, continuing a creative partnership responsible for such songs as "Blow," "XO" and "Superpower." Additional writers include The-Dream, Darius Dixson, Ari Lennox and Ant Clemons, while New Orleans rapper Cheeky Blakk receives credit because the composition incorporates elements of her 1994 song "Twerk Something." According to a since-deleted Instagram post by Ant Clemons, he and Ari Lennox revisited the track in early 2022. One notable change involved the removal of an interpolation of Goodie Mob's "They Don't Dance No Mo'," possibly for artistic or licensing reasons. The finished version replaces it with a new verse and bridge, giving the song a more conventional R&B structure instead of the loop-driven feel of the circulating demo. A rough demo of the song leaked online in stages, first as a brief snippet in 2021 before surfacing more completely in 2023 under the unofficial title "Donk." The unfinished recording became a popular TikTok sound and was eventually released on July 4, 2026, launching a 60-day countdown to Beyoncé's birthday and the 20th anniversary of B'Day. The song's blend of silky grooves, playful innuendo and unapologetic confidence recalls the confident, sexually frank persona that made tracks like "Get Me Bodied" and "Upgrade U" feel bold in 2006. A black-and-white lyric visual accompanied the release, assembled from archival footage of Beyoncé's Sports Illustrated swimsuit shoot, filmed and directed by Cliff Watts.
