"Last Man Breathin'" is Pooh Shiesty's hard-edged account of survival, drawing on his experiences with prison, street violence, and the business of trying to stay alive when your past has a long memory. Shiesty was sentenced in April 2022 to 63 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to a firearms-conspiracy charge stemming from an October 2020 shooting during an attempted marijuana and sneaker purchase in Bay Harbor Islands, Florida. He was granted an early release from federal custody in October 2025. The track finds Shiesty processing the psychological toll of incarceration. In the first verse, he explains what it's like behind bars, with cell searches, prison nightmares, and the constant scrutiny of guards. In the second verse, he shifts focus to South Memphis, contrasting the poverty of his childhood with the wealth he's achieved as a star. The money and status have changed, but the danger hasn't gone anywhere. The chorus draws directly from 2Pac's posthumous 2001 track "Breathin'," featuring the Outlawz. Shiesty reworks Pac's survival mentality into his own story: Bein' a rapper and a killer at the same time ain't easy Gotta be the last mother---er breathing Because of the interpolation and sampling, 2Pac, his producer Johnny "J" Jackson, and Outlawz members Young Noble, Napoleon, E.D.I. Mean, and Kastro all get songwriting credits. While 2Pac's original was built on surviving betrayal and enemies who wanted him dead, Shiesty adapts that mindset to fame, street conflicts, and life behind bars. "Last Man Breathin'" dropped on August 5, 2026, just two days before Shiesty released his debut album, All Eyes on Shiest. The title is a direct homage to 2Pac's landmark 1996 album All Eyez on Me, which marked its 30th anniversary in 2026. The timing gives the track an extra layer of real-world weight. Although Shiesty left federal prison in late 2025, he found himself back in custody in April 2026 following an arrest tied to a robbery and kidnapping case. That legal trouble turns the song's references to prison routines and release-day anticipation into something immediate, a stark snapshot of a life that hasn't quite managed to find a quiet chapter.
