BigXthaPlug Biography by James Christopher Monger BigXthaPlug is a deep-voiced rapper with a percussive flow, narrative gravitas, and a keen ear for production. He burst onto the Texas rap scene in 2023 with his powerful debut album Amar, which he followed with additional singles like "Mmhmm." Born in the southeast Dallas suburb of Pleasant Grove, BigX spent his teen years in the northern city of Commerce, where he focused his energy on a football career. He played briefly for Minnesota’s Crown College before returning to the Lone Star State with his girlfriend. The new father spent his son's first year incarcerated for burglary and aggravated robbery, but it was in jail that he developed his skills, channeling his rage and disappointment into lyrics. After his release in 2019, he put out a handful of singles, including "Big Stepper," which garnered attention from prospective record labels. Choosing to partner with distributor United Masters in 2021, BigX released the Big Stepper EP in 2022. He named his debut full-length effort, Amar, after his son. Released in 2023, the 13-song set combined elements of gospel, trap, blues, and country, and included features from Tay Money, Erica Banks, and Sauce Walka. A deluxe edition followed, as well as subsequent singles "Boy" (with Big Yavo) and "Mmhmm."
