Rockabilly refers to one of the earliest forms of Rock & Roll that developed from the fusion of "hillbilly" Traditional Country with uptempo Rhythm & Blues, featuring more acoustic instrumentation and a frantic and flamboyant singing style indebted to Country Yodeling. Rockabilly instrumentation is often stripped back, often only consisting of either acoustic or twangy hollow-body electric guitars and acoustic upright bass played in a percussive style known as "slap-back", creating a strong, thumping rhythm with prominent echo that frequently took over the position of percussion entirely. Occasionally, arrangements would be expanded to include harmony sections influenced by Doo-Wop or pianos from Boogie Woogie, but the stripped back approach remained most common, often with heavy doses of reverb and tape echo applied in production.
