Novelty

Generally an umbrella term for music that intentionally becomes popular via the medium of humor, often described as 'silly'. Novelty releases or singles have a distinctive sound to them which makes them unique and catchy with their element of humor, such as utilizing a specific instrument, vocal style or subject of lyrics. Others correspond with at-the-time trends and gimmicks, or popular entertainment.
