On page 11 of the February 1, 1964 edition of Billboard appears a full page advertisement for "The Boy With The Beatle Hair" by The Swans with the prophecy "Sounds like a giant!" It reached #85 and like The Swans was never heard of again. Credited to Gamble-Ross-Renzetti-Jackson, it runs to 2 minutes 28 seconds and was released on the Cameo label backed by "Please Hurry Home." "The Boy With The Beatle Hair" was one of a number of songs inspired by the Beatles at that time; the best of a bad bunch was probably "All I Want For Christmas Is A Beatle" by Dora Bryan. There was even another novelty song dealing with their mops: "My Boyfriend Got A Beatle Haircut" by Donna Lynn, which made #83 in 1964. In 1990, ten years after the murder of John Lennon, somebody actually wrote a thoughtful song inspired by the Fab Four. >>
