Brooklyn drill

The Brooklyn drill scene emerged in the 2010s as a precursor to later New York Drill music. Early-2010s rappers like Bobby Shmurda and Rowdy Rebel anticipated the scene, spawning a formative scene influenced by Chicago Drill. However, Brooklyn drill's pioneering artists emerged in the mid-2010s, parallel to the London drill scene's explosive growth in the United Kingdom. This wave of Brooklyn artists, including rappers like 22Gz, Rah Swish, and Sheff G, adopted the grim, syncopated UK Drill sounds evolving in London at the time. British producers like 808 Melo and Axl Beats, through their work with Brooklyn rappers, were similarly formative to New York drill. These parties re-envisioned the UK's sound through more expressive triplet-flows grounded by catchier hooks, creating raw but more accessible music than was typical of Drill at the time.
