“I Think We’re Alone Now” is the main single from the album of the same name by Tommy James & the Shondells. Originally released January 5, 1967, it was one of their biggest hits, lasting 17 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100. The song was written by Ritchie Cordell, staff songwriter of the Shondells' label, Roulette. The only actual members of the Shondells featured on the studio recording of this song were Tommy James and Eddie Gray, the band’s guitarist). The rest are featured as background singers and the instrumental backing was provided by a crew of session musicians. The song had an enduring impact on the culture at large. In 1987, teen mall-pop sensation Tiffany covered this song to great success, spending two weeks atop the Billboard chart (until it was unseated by another Shondells cover, Billy Idol’s “Mony Mony”). It’s also seen covers by The Killers, The Birthday Massacre, The Turtles and Screeching Weasel. It’s featured on many soundtracks, including the horror films Mother’s Day and 10 Cloverfield Lane.
Children, behave That's what they say When we're together And watch how you play They don't understand And so we're running Just as fast as we can Holding onto one Another's hand Trying to get away into the night And then you put Your arms around me As we tumble to the ground And then you say [CHORUS] I think we're alone now There doesn't seem To be anyone around I think we're alone now The beating of our hearts Is the only sound Look at the way we gotta Hide what we're doing Cause what would they say If they ever knew And so we're running Just as fast as we can Holding onto one Another's hand Trying to get away into the night And then you put Your arms around me As we tumble to the ground And then you say [repeat CHORUS] I think we're alone now (Alone now) There doesn't seem To be anyone around I think we're alone now (Alone now) The beating of our hearts Is the only sound I think we're alone now (Alone now) There doesn't seem To be anyone around I think we're alone now (Alone now) The beating of our hearts Is the only sound........
