This song featuring SZA is the lead single from Doja Cat's third album, Planet Her. It is one of several tracks on the album with a guest artist. "I wanted to make a song about kissing. I just thought it would be cute," Doja Cat told Apple Music's Zane Lowe. "That doesn't happen too often, but just a song that's solely about kissing." The sensual jam finds the two artists talking about their differing attitudes to locking lips with their love interests. Doja Cat is smitten by her guy, and for her the kissing will lead into some more intimate bedroom action. SZA is addressing a deceitful former lover she caught cheating on her. She'd felt locked into their unhealthy relationship, which left her no space to breathe. SZA knows her worth and her girlfriends feel she's dodged a bullet, but despite all this, she gives the dude hope by crooning on the chorus: Baby, hold me 'cause I like the way we move Oh, darlin' News of the song first broke when on March 5, 2021, SZA interviewed Doja for V magazine. During their conversation, the "Good Days" singer said their collaboration possesses "a different kind of strut." The "Say So" artist responded by telling SZA having her on the song "is just sexy. It's perfect. I feel confident." SZA and Doja Cat wrote the disco-pop song with: Doja Cat's Kemosabe Records' label boss Dr. Luke. SZA's frequent collaborator Carter Lang. Tizhimself (Doja Cat's "Cyber Sex" and "Go To Town"). Los Angeles native Rogét Chahayed, who has co-written and co-produced hit songs for the likes Halsey ("Bad at Love"), Travis Scott ("Sicko Mode") and Drake ("Laugh Now Cry Later"). Yeti Beats, who is one of Kemosabe Records' producers. He is a regular Doja Cat collaborator. Steve Kipner and Terry Shaddick also get credited as co-writers because the song's chorus borrows the melody from Olivia Newton-John's "Physical." Tizhimself, Carter Lang, Rogét Chahayed and Yeti Beats all produced the track. Warren Fu (The Weeknd, Kehlani) directed the sensual, sci-fi video, which follows an astronaut (played by Grey's Anatomy star Alex Landi) who crash lands on a pink-hued planet. As the spaceman explores the uncharted world, he encounters alien versions of Doja and SZA. Doja Cat and SZA gave the song its live debut when they performed it at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards. Doja Cat took home the award for Top R&B Female Artist during the ceremony. When Yeti Beats was working on Doja Cat's first album, Amala, he co-produced a couple of songs with Rogét Chahayed: "Cookie Jar" and "Roll With Us." Just before COVID, Yeti hit Chahayed up and suggested they work together on some ideas for Doja Cat's third album. Chahayed told Billboard that during one of their sessions, he pulled up a guitar sound and added a keyboard and bass part to it. Yeti took the loop he'd just made, "sped it up a little bit," and inserted some "real dance, hard-hitting drums." They sent the beat to Doja, who responded she'd recently come up with a song about kissing and their beat fit the bill. Doja Cat hosted the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards. She took a break from her evening duties to pick up two prizes: Best Collaboration for "Kiss Me More" and Best Art Direction for her hookup with Saweetie, "Best Friend." This won for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the Grammy Awards in 2022. SZA came to the podium on crutches, having injured her ankle. She still got there ahead of Doja Cat, who was delayed because she was in the bathroom, as she explained to the audience.
