An official music video was released alongside the single. It was directed by Charlotte Wales and was created with the involvement of Lil Uzi Vert, Ava Nirui (creative directors), Clare Byrne (stylist), Aaron de Mey (makeup), Joey George (hair), Lauren Nikrooz (set) and Celia Rowlson-Hall (choreography). The clip sees Uzi organizing a fashion show and opens with them sketching in their dark atelier; they are wearing their own Chanel jacket accessorized with a Helmut Lang feather collar over a Raf Simons shirt and fringe top, fingerless black leather gloves (in the style of Karl Lagerfeld),[4] and half pink and half black dreads.[2] In the next scene, Law Roach is styling Adriana Lima, who is wearing a glove top from Maison Margiela Spring 2001 with a Miss Claire Sullivan skirt and Helmut Lang heels.[4][5] Dancers in Thom Browne move about the atelier, in reference to the racing with the clock scene from the film The Pajama Game. The clip additionally shows fictional interviews, similar to those from the film Zoolander. The runway show features models wearing full looks of Marc Jacobs' spring 2025 collection and is briefly interrupted by protesters,[4] but ends smoothly with Lil Uzi Vert taking a bow and receiving a bouquet of flowers before a standing ovation.[2][4] Dara, Andre Walker, Lynn Yaeger and Steff Yotka are among the audience.[4] The clip also features cameos from Kyle Hagler, Jacobs, Lourdes Leon and Char Defrancesco and archival pieces from Jean Paul Gaultier.[2][4][5][6] It concludes with Uzi in a faux post-show interview in which he credits Prince as his inspiration for the visual.[2] Lil Uzi Vert explained in an interview with Vogue: This video was born out of a conversation that I had with Ava where I expressed an interest in including a mock 'Fashion TV'-style runway show in my first music video from my new album... We thought it would be cool to imagine an alternate universe where instead of me being a beloved rapper, I am a beloved fashion designer. It makes sense for me to have a music video inspired by the world of fashion, as I have always been an avid fashion fan and collector from a very young age. I thought it was important to include archival references to fashion designers I am a fan of, like Martin Margiela, Marc Jacobs, and Karl Lagerfeld in both the storyline and in the wardrobe. I recently released a music video for a song called "Chanel Boy", so I'm finding ways to pay my respects to fashion and the brands I like through my visuals and also my music
At the heart of "What You Saying" is a problem as old as romance itself: the difficulty of falling for someone who speaks an entirely different language. Lil Uzi Vert turns this potential obstacle into the song's thesis, building a story of romantic pursuit complicated by language barriers and cross-cultural attraction. The voice that floats through the refrain belongs to French singer Indila, sampled from her 2014 single "Love Story." When it was released, Indila's song was a commercial disappointment, peaking at just #57 in France. Years later, however, TikTok resurrected it, transforming the track into a global earworm and, eventually, the backbone of Uzi's song. Uzi's use of the sample is sly. When the rapper shrugs, "I don't even know what she said 'cause she foreign," the line is made literally true because the sampled vocals are sung entirely in French. We are placed in the same position as the narrator: emotionally engaged, linguistically lost. Translated into English, Indila's refrain reads like a miniature melodrama: He's not a fool, he loves her, that's all He sees her everywhere, waits for her, standing A rose in hand, nothing holds him back anymore In his love story MCVertt's production is rooted in Jersey club. MCVertt previously co-produced Uzi's 2022 hit "Just Wanna Rock," which played a key role in popularizing Jersey club in mainstream hip-hop. The song features full string orchestration arranged and conducted by Larry Gold, whose resumé also includes Kanye West's "Welcome to Heartbreak" and Rosalia's "Hentai." The music video was directed by Charlotte Wales and creatively steered by Uzi alongside Ava Nirui. Rather than opting for a standard performance clip, the visual unfolds as a mock fashion show, with Uzi unveiling his designer brand, UZI, on a runway that blurs the line between music video and couture spectacle. Supermodel Adriana Lima appears as the show's star, joined by cameos from designer Marc Jacobs, agent Kyle Hagler, stylist Law Roach, and artist Lola Leon.
